Case Study: Bespoke Gym Mirrors for a Private Training Studio in a Converted Barn

Project Overview

Ian, a private personal trainer and performance coach working with high-net-worth, time-poor clients in the South of England, approached CreoGlass with a clear but ambitious vision. He had recently purchased a rundown barn and was in the process of converting it into his first ever private training studio—a personal milestone and a business launch rolled into one.

The brief was to create high-quality gym mirrors that would complement the character of the exposed timber structure while delivering the clarity, scale, and professionalism expected in a premium training environment. The original concept included LED backlit gym mirrors to elevate the space visually and create a high-end, studio-style atmosphere.

As with many start-ups, budget sensitivity and tight timelines were central to the project.

Design Approach & Technical Considerations

From the outset, CreoGlass focused on adding value through design guidance and technical clarity, not just supply.

We prepared:

  • A competitive, startup-friendly quotation

  • Detailed design input and drawings

  • LED advisory support, including recommended LED types, brightness levels, and suitability for gym environments

  • Guidance on mirror sizing, positioning, and sightlines to maximise spatial impact within the barn’s structure

The mirrors were designed to sit cleanly within the architectural openings, respecting the exposed beams while delivering large, uninterrupted reflective surfaces—essential for both functional training and visual impact.

Challenges & Solutions

1. Tight Installation Window
The barn renovation involved multiple trades working in parallel. The mirrors could only be installed in a very narrow window—after decorating was complete and before gym equipment arrived.

Solution:
Installation was planned with precision and executed in a single, carefully coordinated phase to avoid damage, delays, or rework.

2. Complex LED Power Routing
The power source for the proposed LED backlighting was located in a separate room, introducing additional complexity at a late stage.

Solution:
We worked through practical options with the client, clearly explaining implications, costs, and future flexibility. Ultimately, Ian decided to remove the LED element from the scope to keep the project simple for launch—while retaining the option to add it later.

This decision was handled without disruption, delays, or compromise to the final mirror installation.

Outcome & Results

The finished gym features multiple bespoke mirror installations throughout the converted barn, each tailored to its specific zone. The mirrors enhance:

  • Light distribution

  • Spatial awareness

  • Professional finish

  • Client experience during training sessions

The result is a clean, premium training environment that feels purpose-built rather than retrofitted—exactly what a first-time studio owner needs to confidently welcome high-end clients.

While the LED concept was deferred, the core installation stands as a strong foundation, both visually and technically, for future enhancements.
