Project Overview
Large-Scale Commercial Mirror Installation for a Landmark Government Building
CreoGlass was contracted to manufacture, supply and install 160 bespoke impact-resistant mirrors for the new Government of Jersey Headquarters in St Helier.
The mirrors were distributed across approximately 80 washroom facilities over seven floors. Each mirror required accurate surveying, templating, manufacturing, protective packaging and coordinated installation within a demanding commercial construction programme.
Although the mirror specification was relatively straightforward, the project became highly complex because of its location. Transporting more than 2.5 tonnes of glass to Jersey required ferry coordination, detailed load planning, customs documentation, site access approval and careful consideration of local working restrictions.
With replacement glass requiring another mainland manufacture and ferry delivery, accuracy was critical. Every unit had to arrive safely, correspond to its intended location and be installed correctly first time.

Moving 2.5 Tonnes of Bespoke Glass to an Island Site
The technical specification was only one part of the project. The greater challenge was transporting, distributing and installing 160 individually prepared mirrors in Jersey within a tightly controlled programme.
Ferry Transport
All mirrors were packed and loaded for ferry transport to St Helier. Weight limits, load security, sailing times and site delivery windows had to be coordinated before the installation team travelled.
Rapid Manual Off-Load
Parking and unloading restrictions meant approximately 2.5 tonnes of glass had to be removed from the vehicle quickly and safely. The work was completed under significant time pressure and strict site controls.
No Operational Lift
With no working goods lift available, the mirrors had to be manually distributed throughout the building and carried to their allocated locations across seven floors.
Zero Margin for Error
Every mirror had been individually surveyed and assigned to a specific room. Any measurement, manufacturing or handling error would have required another mainland production cycle and ferry delivery.
Two-Day Installation
The installation team worked approximately 12 hours per day to complete the programme within two days while maintaining strict health and safety standards throughout.
The project demanded accurate surveying, disciplined load planning, careful manual handling and constant coordination with the principal contractor. Every mirror was delivered and installed within the agreed programme.

Challenges & Solution
Successful Delivery With No Practical Margin for Error
A large mirror package separated from the mainland by significant logistical and commercial risk.
The installation involved far more than transporting glass to a conventional construction site. The complete package had to be surveyed, manufactured, documented, packed and transported to Jersey before being manually distributed throughout a seven-storey building.
Ferry schedules, customs and tax requirements, vehicle load limitations, site access restrictions and strict health and safety procedures all had to be addressed before installation could begin.
Once on site, the absence of an operational goods lift required the team to manually carry approximately 2.5 tonnes of glass to the relevant floors.

Every mirror location was surveyed and recorded before production. The mirrors were manufactured as an individually coordinated package, clearly allocated to their intended washrooms and packed for road and ferry transport.
On arrival in St Helier, the team organised a rapid manual off-load before distributing the mirrors throughout the building. Installation was then completed over two intensive working days while complying with the principal contractor’s site procedures.
Careful preparation reduced the risk of damaged, misplaced or incorrectly sized units and enabled the full package to be completed within programme.
