The Famida Design began as one customer’s bold vision, and today, it’s one of the most requested splashback styles in bespoke glass design across the UK.
When Famida approached us with her kitchen design brief, she wasn’t looking for an off-the-shelf solution. Her request was clear and considered: a stone-effect glass splashback with a copper sparkle to complement her new modern kitchen, which featured a copper trim and deep grey cabinetry. The challenge? She also wanted the design to feel lighter and brighter by incorporating white into the scheme. What followed was a meticulous design journey that not only met her expectations but inspired a glass splashback style now known across our studio as The Famida Design .
A Visual Challenge Turned Legacy Design
Prepped modern British kitchen with black gloss units and marble countertops, awaiting a bespoke glass splashback installation.
Famida had done her homework. She shared several stone images she liked—references she’d found online—though they were limited in quality and resolution. Her kitchen featured white worktops, and we quickly realised that extending this white element vertically into the splashback would help soften the visual weight of the darker units and enhance the spatial flow.
We crafted a digital composition from the images she supplied. To achieve the over 3.5-metre length required for her main wall, we book-matched and mirrored the artwork. Through a mix of flipping, rotating, and colour balancing, we created a design where the seams became invisible—an organic pattern that looked like a single piece of stone etched in copper.
From One Kitchen to Dozens: Variations of the Famida Design
Side-by-side transformation of a modern kitchen—before with bare plaster walls, after with a striking bespoke splashback featuring metallic textures.
Once the splashback was installed, our team and customers alike were captivated. Internally, we continued to call it The Famida Design. As soon as we published photos on social media, enquiries started rolling in. Clients weren’t just referencing the look—they were asking for it by name.
Over time, the original concept has evolved into a family of related splashback styles, including:
- Inverted colour layering, with dark grey at the base and white at the top.
- Alternative metallic accents such as gold, red, silver, and even rose sparkle.
- Warm neutrals, where grey tones are replaced with earthy browns.
- Minimalist variants, featuring all-white stone effects with subtle veining.
Despite these variations, each version retains the essence of Famida’s original brief—an interplay of contrast, light, and metallic sophistication.
